Glenys Christopher – Artist Profile

I was in at the very beginning of the Burra Regional Art Gallery organising the volunteer roster and helping curate and hang local artists’ work there. I still exhibit my work there and have had work in galleries in Adelaide. I’m still on the volunteer roster for the Burra Art Gallery and now also volunteer as a tutor in Watercolour for the U3A in Burra. I paint mainly in watercolour, pastel and mixed media, and have won awards in each of these media. My subjects are mainly flowers, people, landscape and occasionally portraits.

Jill Foster – Artist Profile

I was a beach kid of the 60s and my drawing has been influenced by the bright lively colours and “fun” lifestyle. Thrown functional clay pieces become my canvas, clay and brush my tools of trade. From a trip to France I observed the “cool style” of the French women and developed the “funky lady” decorated ware. Much overseas travel and a lasting interest in Japanese culture and brush painting filter into my very Australian themes. I design, make, photograph and teach in today’s Arts Industry.

Len was a strong and valued supporter of the gallery and has an exhibiting room named in his honour. In the ST Gill history room across the corridor is a beautiful selection of his watercolours. A popular local identity dear to the hearts of many.

Marie Jonsson-Harrison Artist Profile

Born in Sweden, her grandparents were famous circus artists and her father is Adelaide based sculptor, Ted Jönsson. Marie emigrated to Australia with her family in 1972, and embarked on a highly successful career ‘diversion’ as an international model. Picking up on peripatetic life of her forebears she was to enjoy success as” Miss Summer Spain” 1981,” South Australia Model of the Year” 1982 and “Australian Model of the Year” 1984. However her rich artistic heritage soon exerted its primacy and she began painting while pregnant with her son.

Natalia Yandell – Artist Profile

Natalia and Art Yandell have lived in Clare since building their own home in 1993. In 1998 they returned to teaching in the N.T. on Aboriginal communities (Titjikala on Maryvale Station, Engawala on Alcoota Stn just off the Plenty Highway and Ipolera, west of Hermannsburg and Alice Springs), whilst also living part-time in Clare. They retired from teaching and have lived permanently back in Clare since 2005.

Ian Roberts Artist Profile

Ian Roberts is a third-generation Blyth resident who has helped the community open its first cinema, he owns a 40-acre B&B cottage in Clare, Windmill Cottage, (which features 8000 plants and 1200 species including banksias, melaleucas, hakeas, grevilleas and eucalypts). He farmed at Blyth for 18 years before making the career change to artist in 1983.
