Volunteer at the Gallery

“Art is good for your soul, and one afternoon a month is good for Burra Gallery”, says Volunteers Coordinator Elaine Arthur.

Burra Regional Art Gallery is an important Mid North asset. It is completely volunteer-run, and its volunteers are the “staff of life” for the gallery, highlighting the interconnectivity between gallery and region.

For many volunteers, it is a means of keeping in touch with creative and cultural interests. The gallery stages 7 major exhibitions a year, and many smaller gems. It is a place where local and Adelaide artists show their work, gaining the recognition and sales that help them survive.

It is food for the soul for those who like to look at art, to wonder at the skills and techniques, and to leave the gallery richer for the experience.

Burra Gallery has a strong band of willing volunteers who do the jobs that need to be done, with special importance to those who regularly give 3 hours a month as a gallery attendant. The gallery attendants’ enthusiastic participation keeps the gallery open 6 afternoons a week for 11 months of the year. Their cordial welcome warms the heart of many a visitor to the region, and their suggestions assist in gallery operations.
