First shown at the Adelaide Festival Centre as part of the annual SALA Festival, ‘OUR MOB 2010’ was a statewide celebration of regional and remote South Australian Indigenous artists. The exhibition ‘OUR MOB 2010-ON TOUR’ has now been especially curated to tour regional South Australia.
The touring exhibition is curated by Susan Jenkins (Adelaide Festival Centre) and Rob Johnson (former Manager, Visual Arts Touring Program – Country Arts SA) and is a selection of highlights from ‘OUR MOB 2010’. The touring exhibition is a partnership between Country Arts SA, Ananguku Arts and Culture Aboriginal Corporation and Adelaide Festival Centre.
The exhibition features works of art by established, emerging and lesser-known South Australian Indigenous artists from regional and remote areas including the Anangu /Pitjantjatjara /Yankunytjatjara Lands in the state’s remote North, Ceduna, Port Pirie, Yorke Peninsula, Murray Bridge, Pt Augusta, the Riverland, Mt Gambier and the Coorong with a significant Ngarrindjeri focus.
‘OUR MOB 2010-ON TOUR’ features an impressive range of works including paintings, drawings, sculptures, woven fibre objects, textile garments and ceramics. All express themes important to the artists, with works about water and food, hunting and harvest, spiritual homelands, ancestral narratives, erased cultures and stolen generations as well as resilience and cultural revival.
