Looking Out – Landscape Exhibition / Heike Dargusch – Hotchpotch

The natural environment in a country we call home, with all its adaptations. Looking out from the crop down the track to the far line of hills, the stand of gums and the creek in flood, the hot sky or the frosty ground, asking the questions: Is landscape a reflection of who we are and where we’re going? And: Is nature on our side?

LOOKING OUT landscape exhibition showed in the Bence Room, and was much appreciated in the wonders of its diversity. From our own region were works by Chris Alway, Harry Sherwin, Bud Stephenson and Julianne Pulford. Other works were by Neil Hann and Marek Herburt of Germein Art Focus, Simon C. Smith of Ceduna (who will exhibit in Burra Gallery during SALA), Siv Grava from Elliston and Jim Duncan from Meadows. These artists will be remembered from JUMPING FENCES, the Burra Gallery landscape exhibition taken to 69 Smith Street Gallery Fitzroy for 3 weeks last May.

Heike Dargusch goes from strength to strength with her latest offering HOTCH POTCH. In it she made use of her 4 favourite techniques while still presenting a unified whole. We can now wait and see where this takes her, as the final work surprisingly combines graphite with paper cutting. Onwards and upwards Heike!
