OPEN: $750 SELF PORTRAIT: $750 PEOPLES CHOICE: $100
What makes a successful portrait?
How do you identify your sense of self?
We express ourselves in different contexts and can be recognised by more than appearance.
The BRIEF for this competition is to show a representation of a person be it yourself, a person known to you or your interpretation of the essence of identity.
This representation could be a moment of time or a person as you see in a larger context.
Expression takes many forms and is not always straightforward so the work need not be a figurative representation.
Think about:
How we engage with portraiture?
Contextual interactions between viewer, artist and subject.
Dialogue between the artist and subject…are these depictions truthful, does it matter?
Can portraits of others give us insight into ourselves?
